Born in Madrid in 1952, Jorge Fernández Guerra is one of the most outstanding Spanish composers of his generation. In addition to his work as composer, which has made him worthy of the Premio Nacional de Música 2007 of the Spanish Ministry of Culture, he has excelled as music manager and as essayist on musical topics, with important positions in press and in music institutions.
As a composer, his work is framed in the sphere of the problems of change in the aesthetic paradigm that took place after the eighties. Later, during his long residence in Paris, in the nineties, he widened his vision on the transformations that musical creation needed to undertake in the change of century; among them, the lucid review of the avant-garde heritage and a new strategy for the social validation of European musical composition.
